The foundation is probably the most important part in the
construction of a house.
The foundation is probably the most important part in the construction of a house, it supports the entire structure of the home which is why it needs to be very solid. In Quebec your house and its foundation will be exposed to many elements including frost and ice and it is important that they are solid enough to resist these factors.
Our pods are relatively small but they still require a sturdy and solid foundation. You also need a foundation that is adapted to resist Frost Heave and Ice Lenses which is a disruptive environmental factor in Quebec. Most importantly you will need a drainage system that moves water away from the home towards a sewer drain or a drainage pit to avoid weakening the ground under and around the foundation.
Our pods can be built on traditional concrete foundations or on piles. The foundation you choose will depend on budget and must be suited to the conditions of your lot which may include:
Mountainous terrain
With soft land
Near a lake or river
Subject to heavy rain
Under extreme weather condition (snow, frost, ice)
Loftypods designs pods that can be installed on piles or concrete slab foundations. Your foundation is not included in our proposal but we can recommend companies that can do your foundation and we will help you throughout the process.
FOUNDATION TYPES
SLAB FOUNDATION
A slab foundation under a manufactured home acts as a platform for support rather than the floor of the home. The slab typically sits on top of the ground with ground anchors embedded in the concrete. It is insulated around its perimeter, which keeps the ground beneath warmer.
Advantages of slab foundations:
One of the most affordable systems
The time needed for this foundation is minimal
Good insulation & keeps heating and cooling bills to a minimum
Less risk of flooding
Built closer to the ground for easier access to your house
PILE FOUNDATION
Screw pile foundations are also known as helical piles, piers, screw anchors, or torque piles. Screw piles are considered one of the most economical choices for a foundation and can take as little as a day to install. Screw piles are the perfect solution if you have a top layer of soft soil or a lot that is uneven or sloping lot.
Piles are driven into the ground until they reach a more solid support layer. It takes minimal time to set each pile in place and the entire process requires very little excavation work. Unlike concrete, there is no drying time. A home can be placed on top of the piles immediately after they are installed.
Advantages of pile foundations:
Can be used in any type of soil
Faster to install than standard concrete foundations
Installations can be done all year round
Installed at remote sites or on sites with limited access
